I'm sure you will have heard news that the UK is hailing the 2018 harvest as one of the best ever. This is certainly true of the harvest at Chartham Vineyard. Our 2017 harvest was about 11 tonnes. This year we have picked over 22 tonnes, largely due to the record-breaking exceptionally long, warm and dry summer, followed by an unusually warm and dry autumn. Enormous credit must go to our wonderful harvest team for their stalwart efforts, produced with great stamina, good humour and a huge appetite for lemon drizzle cake! Reports from our winemaker suggest good fruit ripeness, concentrated flavours with good sugar and acid levels. We hope to be able to produce still red and white wines, as well as sparkling wine. We will let you know how the winemaking progresses.
Launch of Chartham Vineyard Sparkling Wine We have recently taken delivery of our first sparkling wine, made from the 2016 Chardonnay harvest. It has been made by the traditional method (or method traditionelle) in which the wine goes through a second fermentation in the bottle, the first being carried out in a tank. Our Blanc de Blancs 2016 will be available in our shop to taste and buy from Saturday, 27th October. Look forward to seeing you!
