Hampshire soil is already producing award-winning wines and we aim to follow this tradition!
On 7th May 2019, we began planting almost 16,000 vines from grape varieties that thrive in English weather, like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Bacchus. The vines were all planted by hand, to avoid soil disturbance, overseen by Paul Woodrow-Hill of Vine Care UK. He has a strong track record and has helped establish and manage many successful vineyards including Denbies Wine Estate and Nyetimber.
Over the next few months the straining post and wires will be put in and then we just wait!! Nature cannot be hurried – the first healthy shoots are already appearing but it will be 2022 before we are picking and pressing our first Penn Croft grapes. The conservation viticulture techniques used in the vineyard have created magnificently healthy soil and we expect the grapes to produce exceptional quality sparkling wines.
