Mudgley Farm Vineyard (Mowbarton Estate)

In 2014 we planted our vineyard in an acre of land on a large sunny field to the east of Mudgley Farm house, reviving an ancient tradition: 800 years ago the monks of Glastonbury grew grapes on these very same south-facing slopes of Mudgley Hill. The views are still as stunning today as they would have been then.

The Mowbarton Estate has 1250 vines, a mixture of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay planted in view of Glastonbury Tor. Long hours of summer sunlight, freedom from frost, and gentle breezes from the Bristol Channel produce a classic cool climate sparkling wine. We picked our first harvest of grapes in October 2016, and sipped our first Mowbarton Estate Somerset Sparkling Wine on Christmas Day 2018.

Accommodation:

Mowbarton: Luxury self-catering holiday accommodation for large groups or couples.

Mowbarton is in a peaceful location less than two miles from Wedmore, with stunning views.

The Barn sleeps eight in comfort with four bedrooms, four living rooms, a large farmhouse kitchen and a beautifully secluded walled garden. There is also plenty of space for cars and storage for bikes.

Just across the lane is Mowbarton Shepherd’s Hut. Completely secluded on its own private site, it makes a delightfully romantic get-away for two, or an extension to the Barn for larger parties.

Either – or both – make a great choice when you have a wedding or family get-together in the area. And to complete the celebrations we now have sparkling wine from our own vineyard, planted on the south-facing slopes of Mudgley Hill where Glastonbury monks planted their vines over 800 years ago.
